The basketball world is mourning the loss of former college and NBA player Darius Morris on Saturday. Morris, who played for several NBA teams, died at the age of 33.

Before making his way to the NBA, Morris played two seasons at Michigan, and the Wolverines paid tribute to him on social media.

"The Michigan Basketball Community mourns the passing of Darius Morris," the team said, with a graphic featuring Morris wearing a Michigan jersey.

Morris led the Big Ten in assists in his second season, and he also set the then-program record for single-season assists while earning All-Big Ten honors.

After his time at Michigan, Morris was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft.

He spent two years with the Lakers, playing in a career-high 48 games and making 17 starts.

He signed with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2013-14 season, playing in 12 games in his lone season with the franchise.

Morris would join the Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets over the next two seasons, respectively. He also played in the G-League and in leagues in France and China before his final professional season in 2020.

"Saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine Darius Morris," said former Michigan coach John Beilein.

"In 2010-11 Darius was our starting point guard. He was a leader in that program changing 21 win season that laid the foundation for Michigan's next decade of success.

RIP DMo and condolences to the Morris family."

To Beilein's point, Michigan would make multiple appearances in the NCAA Tournament under his guidance as head coach in the year's following Morris' departure, including two appearances in the national title game.

Rest in peace to Darius Morris, and we offer condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
