David King wants to keep an eye on GWS skipper Toby Greene and Sydney star Tom Papley, with both having quiet starts to the 2024 season.

Greene, who was last year's All-Australian skipper, has only kicked nine goals so far this year – five of which came against Gold Coast in Round 4.

He has been held goalless by Carlton and Sydney, with a suspension sandwiched in between.

Papley meanwhile has also been below his best, with the exception of four goals against Essendon and three against the Suns, he has kicked 12 for the year.

This is despite Sydney and GWS looking like the teams to beat in 2024.

"What's happening with Toby Greene, and I want to throw Tom Papley in there as well? Toby has kicked nine goals for the year and Papley's only kicked the 12," King said on SEN's Whateley.

"These two teams need these two to get on board. Papley was their energiser bunny last year and just doesn't look the same player. He doesn't look as dynamic. You never know where they're at injury-wise.

"We just have to assess what we see – Josh Kelly has kicked more goals than Toby Greene and he's playing on-ball. Brent Daniels has missed some footy and has kicked more goals than Greene.

"I think they need the All-Australian captain to wind back the clock a fraction. We're into the season and we need to start seeing his brilliance again.

"We're going to keep an eye on them and see if they can lift."

The Giants take on Essendon this weekend at Marvel Stadium, while Sydney travels west to face Fremantle.
