The uncertainty around the Melbourne Rebels' future could lead to a Wallaby making the switch to rugby league.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Carter Gordon's management met with the Gold Coast Titans with the flyhalf's contract ending at the end of the season with the Rebels and Rugby Australia.

The 23-year-old has played eight Tests for the Wallabies but has so far had a difficult career in the gold jersey after he was dropped during the Rugby World Cup by former coach Eddie Jones.

Interest from the Titans reportedly has waned due to a $700,000-a-season asking price from his management and the fact he's hardly played rugby league.

The report suggests Gordon's management requested the meeting, with coach Des Hasler not present.

Gordon's interest in a code-switch comes as Mark Nawaqanitawase prepares to move to the Roosters at the end of the season while Jordan Petaia has been in negotiations with the Dragons.

Rugby Australia has been negotiating with Gordon but where he would land in Super Rugby Pacific is a mystery with the Rebels in significant debt.

The flyhalf was born in Queensland.

Discussions with the Titans comes as Hasler mulls over his halves with Tanah Boyd dropped in round six for a preferred spine of Jayden Campbell, AJ Brimson and Kieran Foran.

However, the half played one of his best matches of the year in the Titans' first win last week against the Warriors after he was selected at five-eighth due to Campbell's injury.

Boyd has retained his spot for this weekend's clash against the Storm.
