To the surprise of probably no one, Caitlin Clark was the No. 1 overall pick in yesterday's WNBA Draft. Equally unsurprising was that jersey sales for the now-former Iowa star immediately skyrocketed into record-breaking levels.

According to Arash Markazi of The Sporting Tribune, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin asserted that Clark had the highest-selling draft night jersey for any player in the history of the apparel company.

"Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin said that Caitlin Clark had the highest selling jersey on draft night of any athlete in any sport in the company's history," Markazi wrote.

The writing was probably on the wall when reports emerged that Fanatics pretty much instantly sold out of their ready-to-ship Clark jerseys within an hour. Since then, Fanatics has been accepting pre-orders for more jerseys when they're back in stock.

For many fans, it's a reminder that Clark is an absolute juggernaut of a talent who the WNBA is quickly capitalizing on with her immense popularity. Others, who are still bitter over issues that Fanatics has had with their rollout of MLB jerseys, are joking that Fanatics is probably going to botch the job:

"thousands of "CARK 33" chicago sky jerseys shipping across the midwest today," one user joked.

"this somehow ends with a shipment of #44 dallas clark fever jerseys arriving in indianapolis next week," wrote another.

"And yall confused as to why she was on SNL. She has motion," a third declared.

The Caitlin Clark Effect is already paying huge dividends to the WNBA and its partners - and we're mere days removed from the NCAA Tournament.
