Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders earned the ire of many college football fans today for some rather callous comments he made about a former Buffaloes player who publicly criticized his father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.

Among the many people those comments irked was another college football coach.

"Ion even remember him tbh. Bro had to be very mid at best," Shedeur Sanders wrote on X a few hours ago in response to comments former Colorado player Xavier Smith made about his father's seemingly unkind attitude towards players.

Newly-minted UTEP head coach Scotty Walden didn't appreciate that from Sanders, particularly since Smith is now heading into his second year playing under him. Taking to X, Walden spoke glowingly of Smith, highlighting how Smith helped lead Austin Peay to a conference title last year and that he was a freshman All-American.

"I coached Xavier at AP and now here at UTEP. He is the furthest thing from soft. He is a great kid/player and led us to a conference title. He answered a question honestly in an interview and was just telling his side. He was a freshman AA and has an extremely bright future on and off the field. I am glad he is on my team- check the tape," Walden wrote.

Many praised Coach Walden for his kind words. But others were skeptical of this comment, pointing out that if Smith was such a great player he wouldn't be complaining about his experience with the Buffaloes.
