JJ Redick has never been a coach before, outside of mentoring his son's youth basketball team.

That hasn't stopped NBA teams from interviewing him for head coaching positions. The Toronto Raptors did so in 2023, and now the Charlotte Hornets are set to do the same, per insider Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic.

"The Charlotte Hornets are interviewing JJ Redick for their head coaching job," Charania reported Monday night. "The 15-year NBA veteran and former Duke star has shown an interest in making a coaching jump in recent years."

Redick, 39, who played for six organizations over 15 seasons from 2006-21, has worked as an analyst for ESPN since retiring, first in the studio before moving to an in-game role this year.

During that time, Redick says he has had multiple NBA teams express interest in having him join their staff, including the Boston Celtics.

"I've had discussions and offers in terms of being an assistant coach and on the staff from a number of teams," Redick told Pablo Torre on an episode of "Pablo Torre Finds Out" back in January.

The former sharpshooter also cohosts the "Mind The Game" podcast with LeBron James which seeks to provide more in-depth basketball analysis than what you see on mainstream television and radio.

The Hornets have been looking for a new head coach after Steve Clifford stepped down following the conclusion of the regular season to assume an advisory role in the front-office.
