Over the past few days, there has been a lot of chatter about Caitlin Clark's salary for her rookie season in the WNBA. The all-time leading scorer will make roughly $76,000

Countless fans complained about Clark's salary being unfair, saying she's worth more to the WNBA than $76,000. While that's true, there's important context that needs to be shared.

Former college basketball player Rachel DeMita explained why Clark's salary is so low in a recent video shared on social media.

"On paper with no context, this looks absolutely insane. And there are a lot of new WNBA and Caitlin Clark fans losing their minds over this," DeMita said. "We have to remember, guys, that this is just Caitlin Clark's salary. This doesn't stop her from doing brand deals, doing commercials and making revenue in other areas, which she has already made millions and millions of dollars from college.

"It's funny to me because a lot of people complaining about Caitlin Clark's salary are people who have never watched a WNBA game in their life. The first game they will be watching is just to see Caitlin play. There are so many people in the WNBA that don't even make close to this in their entire career. Some of these new fans also have to realize how much more money the NBA generates than the WNBA."

DeMita then showed a chart that reveals the NBA made over $10 billion in revenue from 2022-2023. The WNBA, on the other hand, recently generated $60 million in revenue.

At the end of DeMita's video, she said Clark could become the most influential women's basketball player ever if she's able to generate more money for the WNBA.

Clark will make her WNBA debut on May 14.
