Seth Trimble will return to North Carolina for his junior year.

Trimble, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month, announced his decision to "run it back" at UNC.

"I've taken time to realize where my home is," Trimble wrote on Instagram. "After much consideration, I've decided my heart and soul belong in Chapel Hill. Tar Heel Nation, let's work."

Trimble joined North Carolina as the No. 30 recruit and Wisconsin's top-ranked prospect in the class of 2022, per 247Sports. Playing 34 of 35 games off the bench, Trimble averaged 5.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged more minutes (17.1) than any of the team's other reserves and scored eight points in North Carolina's Sweet 16 loss to Alabama. He contributed stout perimeter defense to Hubert Davis' backcourt and made 13 of 31 threes after converting just one deep attempt in his first season.

Trimble entered the transfer portal on April 9. Two weeks later, he decided the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Bringing back Trimble is a big boost to a UNC squad that went 29-8 and made the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed. Yet he's not guaranteed to handle a larger role next season.

The Tar Heels are still waiting to learn whether last year's leading scorer, RJ Davis, will enter the NBA Draft or return for his fifth season. Elliot Cadeau could return after posting a team-high 4.1 assists in his first season, and North Carolina will also welcome five-star recruit Ian Jackson.
