In a shocking move by the Dodgers division rival, the San Francisco Giants, they revealed a puzzling promotion for the upcoming series at Oracle Park which starts May 13.

The video features Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and the rhetoric of the post says, “Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the San Francisco Giants May 13-15.”

According to ESPN, the Giants are averaging 32,020 in attendance per home game, which is the 11th-most in Major League Baseball. The Dodgers will bring with them a road average of 29,831 and a league-leading 39,454 average per game.

It appears that the Giants are hoping to get closer to a capacity crowd of 42,300 at their rival’s expense or they are welcoming the Dodgers faithful into town with open arms.

San Francisco was reportedly interested in signing the two-way superstar but the ballpark is unfriendly to left-handed power hitters. Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi confirmed in Dec. 2023 that Ohtani did visit the team on a recruiting visit during his free agency, and the club offered the same contract Ohtani signed with the Dodgers.

It was a $700 million contract with massive deferrals that would have left the team significant payroll room to improve the team around Ohtani.

“The proposal that was made was very comparable if not identical to what he wound up agreeing to,” Zaidi said Tuesday (per the Associated Press and San Francisco Chronicle). “… We said we were agreeable to it. It was going to come down to a choice by the player at that point.”

Playing the Giants is already hostile but the fact that he turned them down for their rival will hype the crowd up even more.
