Yankees have been at the center of multiple umpire controversies lately; Burdi about to begin rehab assignment; Injury updates on LeMahieu, Hampton

NJ.com | Bob Klapisch: First, Hunter Wendelstedt ejected manager Aaron Boone on April 23rd because a fan in the stands complained about the strike zone. Then, Ryan Blakney ejected outfielder Aaron Judge because No. 99 muttered under his breath about the strike zone while walking away from the home plate after getting rung up on a questionable strike three call.

Klapisch took the opportunity yesterday to go on a tirade about umpires, and claiming with jest that the league's umpires had declared war on the Yankees. Tongue-in-cheek comment aside, the truth is, Major League Baseball's umpires — and indeed, if you've been paying attention to the NBA playoffs, referees from all sports — have done little in recent years to ingratiate themselves with a fanbase that is largely counting down the years until robo-umps are a viable replacement.

Daily News | Peter Sblendorio: After missing a significant chunk of last season due to a wrist injury that required surgery, catcher Jose Trevino is absolutely thrilled to not only be back behind the plate, but to be making a positive impact on the Yankees. Just as important as his production on the field has been his leadership skills off it, as he has become a veteran voice within the clubhouse after two full seasons in pinstripes.

Somerset Patriots: Reliever Nick Burdi, who made the Yankees Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee with an electric spring training, was supposed to start a rehab assignment with the Somerset Patriots yesterday before the game was postponed due to rain. Whether Burdi will continue his assignment with Somerset remains to be seen. The Double-A team is about to head to Altoona for a six-game set, while the Triple-A RailRiders are returning from a roadtrip. Either way, while both will be off today, it should hopefully be only a few days before the Yankees get a strikeout arm back in their bullpen.

MLB.com: In some injury news, third baseman DJ LeMahieu, who has been on the IL since breaking his foot late in spring training before undergoing a brief, failed rehab assignment in April, resumed baseball activities over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, he took batting practice. Although that's a good sign, manager Aaron Boone said that there is currently no timetable for him getting back to minor-league games just yet.

CBS Sports | RotoWire Staff: This weekend, the Yankees transferred prospect Chase Hampton to the 60-day injured list. The move was largely procedural — Hampton, who has been on the IL since experiencing shoulder discomfort at the end of spring training, recently began a throwing program, but is still at least a month away from joining the Somerset rotation.
